Black Hills National Cemetery Veterans Day 2010

2010 Veterans Day Avenue of Flags

In November over 29,000 deceased veterans and their family members are honored at the Black Hills National Cemetery, east of Sturgis, SD, by the South Dakota Knights of Columbus by maintaining its 50 American flags. Every Veterans Day, 8 Knights from Bishop Lawler Assembly 1075, Rapid City, SD, spend 6 hours hoist and retrieve the 40 USA flags on the Avenue of Flags before and after Veterans Day. The Avenue of Flags are flown from Memorial Day to October or until increment weather.

The SD Knights are members of the South Dakota Veterans' Cemeteries Support Council that seeks donation to install and maintain the 50 USA flags and flag poles on the BHNC Avenue of Flags.
